PREMIER COMMENTS ON MANNYAS RESIGNATION

EASTERN Cape Premier, Rev Makhenkesi Stofile, said that the Education Departments Superintendent General, Modidima Mannya, had shut down
all lines of communication as the National Education Department and the MEC for Education, Mr Stone Sizani, have been trying to persuade
him to come back to work but to no avail.

He said all they had for the time being was the resignation letter that Mannya handed in on Tuesday. Subsequent to Mannya resignation, the
Education MEC, Stone Sizani, met with the Premier and representatives from the South African Democratic Teachers Union to find a way to
deal with the resignation.

Following these discussions the matter was referred to the National Department of Education. Efforts to contact Mr Mannya to discuss the
matter have failed.

Rev Stofile said: "It becomes difficult to comment of the progress of the case if Mr Mannya cuts off all lines of communication".

Commenting on the death threats that Mannya had received, Stofile said it was imperative that everyone who got death threats reported the
case to the police and request protection. He said the police would investigate the death threats and based on their findings decide
whether that individuals life was really in danger.
